Patent monitoring, landscape analysis and competitive intelligence using FluidityIQ

A step-by-step guide for patent professionals

Patent landscape reports help companies and attorneys turn complex patent data into actionable business intelligence, supporting smarter innovation, reduced legal risk, and stronger competitive positioning. By analyzing who is patenting what, where, and how quickly, these reports reveal technology trends, competitive threats, freedom-to-operate risks, and untapped white space—insights that inform R&D strategy, portfolio development, market entry, licensing, M&A due diligence, and litigation planning. With FluidityIQ’s tools, teams can quickly surface these insights, visualize crowded and open technology areas, and make confident, data-driven decisions that align intellectual property strategy with real-world business goals.

Getting started with a search strategy

Begin by developing a search strategy using natural language to capture the essential features of the innovation landscape you wish to assess. You may choose to upload a document that FluidityIQ’s AI will analyze to craft a draft strategy for your approval, or you can simply type in the Invention Description field and select the appropriate filters. Alternatively, use a patent or patents as the basis for this analysis. This process generates a corpus of up to 1,000 relevant patents for review, provides access to customized analytics and creates a broad corpus of knowledge that the Deep Research Agent can utilize when analyzing the technology landscape. You can create very broad or narrow focus areas and search by area of innovation or by owners of patents. This allows you to customize the focus area, including monitoring the activity of specific competitors in your markets.

Creating a search strategy

Running the search and analyzing results

Launching the search will bring you to the Results page where you will have the ability to peruse up to 1,000 patent documents, view search-specific analytics, and evaluate various innovation clusters or groups. You will also have access to a Digital Research Assistant and text filtering to aid in your patent evaluation. Results can be exported as well.

FluidityIQ exposes contextual data relevant to your analysis

Using the Deep Research Agent

From the Results page, you can access the Deep Research Agent by clicking on the Research link in the dark banner at the top of the page. From there you can use our Starters, or shortcuts, or engage with the agent directly using natural language questions and instructions. FluidityIQ’s Deep Research Agent is aware of your search strategy as well as the entire content of the (up to 1,000) relevant patents you identified as part of your original search. Additionally, FluidityIQ’s Deep Research Agent has access to a library of nearly 2.9 million academic research papers that it can leverage to assess the technology landscape, evaluate white space and consider past and potential future trends.

Interrogate the interactive Deep Research Agent using natural language

The reports produced by the Deep Research Agent may of course be supplemented with any of the contextual data exposed from the original search strategy. Additionally, the Deep Research Agent enables the user to interrogate the corpus of source knowledge, as mentioned above, but can also be updated and customized by simply creating natural language prompts using the chat box at the bottom of the screen. This allows the researcher to explore areas uncovered in the initial report further or extract more detail about key areas of interest.

At the bottom of the page where the agentic report is generated, you will find interactive links to the Sources that are included. Each source document used in the report will appear as a hyperlink in the Sources section at the end of each report and can be accessed by clicking on the links individually. Beneath that, you may choose to copy the report (to insert into an email or document) or export it into a presentation-ready PDF using the icons at each report’s end.

Conclusion

FluidityIQ’s comprehensive approach to patent landscape analysis empowers users to efficiently discover, analyze, and understand innovation trends. By leveraging natural language search strategies and advanced analytics, researchers can tailor their focus, monitor competitor activity, and evaluate up to 1,000 relevant patents with ease. The integration of the Deep Research Agent further extends these capabilities, providing access to millions of academic papers and enabling deeper exploration of technology clusters and white space.

Whether assessing competitive dynamics or uncovering emerging opportunities, FluidityIQ delivers a flexible and powerful platform that enhances decision-making and accelerates innovation. Its intuitive tools and customizable workflows make it an essential resource for anyone seeking actionable insights within the technology landscape.
